Threadripper 1950X issues, 16 cores/32 threads
Re: Threadripper 1950X issues, 16 cores/32 threads
Transcoding various MP3s to variable bitrate, V3 190 kbps.
Re: Threadripper 1950X issues, 16 cores/32 threads
When you're transcoding, please check the Disk usage in Task Manager - https://imgur.com/HYuvBia
If CPU usage is low and disk usage is 100%, this means that disk is just fast enough to cope with that many parallel processes.
In such case reducing the number of threads helps.
Also, converting to a different disk might help.

hmmm yeah, the hard drive is maxed out when I convert, but now for some reason the CPU does stay mostly at 100% all the time... I'm not sure what I'm doing different now...
I'll report back if it happens again and will keep an eye on disk usage. Thanks.

If you convert same files again, Windows caches them and there's no delay on read anymore.
Re: Threadripper 1950X issues, 16 cores/32 threads
Yeah, I guess that's it. With new files it's the same and disc usage is at 100 all the time.
