I checked and it's possible to use the .eac3 extension, so I changed to that instead of an .mkv.

Yes, it requires a proper container, as .ac3 cannot contain eac3 stream. At least that's the error message I got when developing

I used the same approach as for the DTS encoder, as the command line parameters apparently don't work as expected.
