Extract works great as described, which I should have thought of myself if my brain were operating well at the time. However, my attempts to merge multi-chapter m4bs end up crashing every time. Is there a way to split an m4b by it's chaptermarks without transcoding, or a method of merging 2 or more multi-chapter m4bs?

Yes. I have no problem selecting all Tracks and changing their Tags. The resulting merged file however is always missing Title and Track info whether I make all the Track and Title Tags of the source files the same or not... at least for MP3s which is the only file type I have tried merging so far. ...
