[SOLVED] Audio .AAC files into M4A containers without re-encoding?

Post by Dietmar »

How can I pack audio .AAC files into M4A containers "without re-encoding"?
Export Filename from xxxx.aac to xxxxx.m4a.
If I set the target format to M4A and actions to "copy" , the generated M4A files cannot be tagged correctly in MusicBee.
If I set the target format to M4A and actions to "unpack", tagging works.
However, I fear that with this setting, the files will be re-encoded, which I do not want.

Note: The "XMedia recode" software creates M4A with the "copy" option, which I can tag in MusicBee as desired.

What is the correct setting if I want to pack .AAC files into .M4A containers without new encoding?

Many Thanks

You can use the Extract method - this way no transcoding will be performed.

I was looking for this information. Thank you for the quick help.

What happens with the "Copy" method?

Copy just copied the file. Extract re-packed the audio into the m4a container.

Many Thanks. I can now tag the .m4a files generated via "extract" correctly. But why are the generated .m4a files approx. 30 to 300 kb smaller than the original .acc files?
Isn't it strange if there is no compression?

Yes, it looks like not all audio is extracted. I will look into it.

Many Thanks. With the new version, the m4a files are usually the same size as the .acc files.
Sometimes an m4a is a few kb smaller.
