I would like to report a reproducible issue related to Audio CD ripping speed in xrecode 3.
Environment
Windows
Reproduced with multiple optical drives
Reproduced with multiple audio CDs
Steps to Reproduce
Insert an audio CD.
Start ripping with xrecode 3.
The ripping speed is extremely slow.
Open Windows Media Player and start CD ripping.
Immediately cancel the ripping process.
Return to xrecode 3 and start ripping again.
Result
The ripping speed immediately increases to approximately 32x.
The behavior is reproducible 100% of the time.
It occurs with every optical drive I tested.
Expected Result
xrecode 3 should achieve the same high ripping speed without requiring Windows Media Player to initialize the CD first.
Since the ripping speed increases dramatically after starting and immediately cancelling a rip in Windows Media Player, it appears there may be an issue related to drive initialization or CD audio extraction setup within xrecode 3.
This issue may affect not only my system but also users with large CD collections. While the difference may be negligible when ripping only a few CDs, it becomes very significant when dealing with hundreds or even thousands of discs, where the difference between very slow ripping and 32x ripping can result in a substantial increase in total processing time.
Feature Request
Additionally, I would appreciate consideration for an option that allows users to manually set the CD read speed.
Some users may prefer maximum ripping speed, while others may prefer lower speeds when extracting audio from damaged or problematic discs. A user-configurable read speed setting would provide greater flexibility and may also help avoid issues related to drive initialization or speed control.
